This course examines the federal income tax like-kind exchange rules with emphasis on transactions involving real estate. Students build on the substantive and time-period requirements of Internal Revenue Code section 1031 by focusing on boot issues, deferred and multiparty exchanges, the use of intermediaries as accommodation parties, reverse and tenant-in-common exchanges, related party exchanges, and exchanges involving multiple categories of property.
